VoIP Skype to Use Television Screens for Video Calls
21 January 2010
The VoIP service Skype has announced its plans for introducing a system for using television screen to receive video calls.
Skype is said to be collaborating with Panasonic and LG to ensure that these particular TVs with internet have the ability of running High Definition video and come with Skype software.
For using the internet enabled TV and a TV-ready webcam along with this new technology, Skype has recommended a broadband connection of 1Mb. This would enable the users making use of Skype for communicating to sit back on their beds or sofas and communicate through their TV, as the webcam will have microphones with long-range capacity.
However, for making use of a PC for making HD video calls, the users will require high-speed connection to the broadband (click to compare broadband) in addition to a 1.8Ghz dual core processor, a HD webcam and Skype 4.2 Beta for Windows. Skype has decided to support 720p HD videos to allow the viewers to see both special TVs and the computers.
The market is expected to receive a range of optimised HD webcams that can work with Skype from faceVsion, In Store and others. These models will hit the market at CES ‘10.
Phone.com has predicted that small businesses would try to reduce their expenses on phone, which in turn would result in higher sales for VoIP hardware in 2010.
